Wednesday was the 4th, and I had a good time at the parade in the small town next door. And the rest of the weekend slowly slid by with me washing the cars and oiling an armoire. Other than that, the big new would have been that I got DSL, but that didn’t happen as I looked at the finances and found them unable to support higher bandwidth over food and gasoline. I’m thinking about checking into Facebook, but I have yet to see a real need in acquiring another site other than to mirror this one. Annnd, another week, another duck to Flickr! Thanks for your continued support.

Yes, I’m not even going to mention the name of the phone that was released on Friday. I used to have a cell, but I got out of the contract when I realized I just didn’t need one. What I wish for is something that would be a dumb terminal to the web with some favorable throughput. I have a laptop, but it just doesn’t get over the fence at the library where the wifi is free. And on that the security is nonexistent, so I don’t dare email or anything.
Although Leo had reviewed the unsaid phone on three shows so far and I think he’s happy with the core functions. Intriguing.
And I made a favorite icon this weekend (aka the favicon). And now I just need to figure out where to put it in the code. I’ve been thinking of the duck on a pillar concept for some time now, and will try to expand it to the theme in the header bar. Again, I have no coding skills, so this is really a stretch for me. But the duck on a pillar is my official trademark.

Brownback wins. Hands down. Just in the way the world of Web 2.0 is included (especially his blog). I totally intend to acquire how Brownback’s blog has all the icons so that you can digg it, technorati it, etc. etc. I was blown away by that. (Here’s Huckabee’s in case you are wondering)
Maybe I should compare all the sites. I think I saw in PC Mag that they had compared the top tier candidates for both parties, but that was around January. Nope, I think my eyes would explode. Yeah, it’s a scattered post today. I’m over halfway through on my current pictures for ducks. I like how flickr has been running so far, but I really need to take some more photos before I run out. Hopefully, within the next two weeks I’ll be able to snap some with the Kodak. My kingdom for a new digital camera!

I was just listening to This Week In Tech #101 and it turns out that two hours later over 100 security flaws were found in the Safari browser for Windows. Woops! As to whether the blame is on Apple or on Microsoft remains to be seen, however, I’m still behind browser competition, or any competition for that matter. Anyone for tennis?
I have about 4 more ducks waiting to be received by friends Franz and Brian, and that leads me to 1 duck away from a duck a week for the first year of this blog. Donations are wayyyyy up this month. I’ve also talked to Brian about a widget for the wordpress contest that appeals to my geekitude. I can think things up, but I can’t get much farther than the drawing board. Brian has the black belt in coding.
And on the self improvement front, I got Dave Allen’s “Getting Things Done” and actually got up and ran this morning. It’s time to streamline my life physically and mentally. Spiritually, I got God, and God is good.

Dr. Pepper now comes in 16oz. cans with labels saying “made with cane sugar”. It is a fabulous time to be alive. I hope the title brought visions of Tennessee Ernie Ford into crystal clarity. Gaither Gospel Series has a great 40 song compilation of gospel songs that I just love; especially “I Can Tell You the Time”. And duck #45 came in on 05.18; my biggest patron crashed her motorcycle and found it in the hospital gift shop. She’s recuperating very well, and I’ve sped her healing by sharing banana oatmeal muffins made by my beautiful wife.
And I’ve been linked by my friend Carol at yankeeaholic.com! She’s ummm, well, a Yankee fan, and another patron to the poultry preserve (nos. 38 and 44 respectively, to show up in Jan/Feb of 2008 if kept on schedule). Give her a visit and see what she’s up to.
This one is a post on Saturday rather than Monday as I once again have the day off! Ducks have now been moved to the sidebar with a flickr badge for ease of viewing.
GLU!

I received an Oliver Hardy Duck today (05.16.07) from Celebriducks, which is one of the many duck websites I will be listing on the sidebar gratis of revenue. Celebriducks and Rubbaduck are the creators of the really high end ducks, which tells you how out of control this whole pastime of rubber duck collecting has gotten. I do like the limited editions, and if there was one duck I would really strive to get ahold of is one of the ducks from 1991 that floated around the world due to a transport ship crashing and losing it’s cargo. Eric Carle wrote a great childrens book about it that my kids just love.
I also like putting stuff up roughly twice a week, as the blogging slowly becomes an addiction. I do try to write some things in advance, but I’m having a hard time as a) it isn’t fresh and b) I just want to post and post. Why didn’t someone tell me about this before I got into it? Brian has a new tumblr log that I should be checking out, but haven’t had a chance to yet. Maybe this weekend I can get a peek. Is it just me or are we all becoming reporters? No matter if it’s news or opinion, it seems that the whole world is running to the web. If you are reading this, I suspect I’m telling you something you already know. But what you may not know is the greatest story of all. I haven’t always known it, frankly, and somewhere in here I’ll tell you how I came to know it.

…then I renewed the domain name fees! Which means another year and a chance to show off the rest of the ducks. I’m sure some of you are out there wondering how financially desperate I am, and that answer is after the first fruits going to God, the rest goes to the support of my beautiful family. Hence, the whole goal number 2 which is to make this site self sustaining. So if you like the ducks, feel free to feed them by using the Paypal donation button. I’m considering advertising, but I’m down on things that impede load time. It’s important that you get the fowl fresh and fast. I do have plans as we continue to load the pictures of the ducks to make pictures sized to fit cell phone screens and possibly a screensaver. I think that would also be nice for desktop backgrounds as well. It really is a constant state of flux. Oh! And I have some charts and graphs that I built which directly relates to what I do in my primary source of capital acquisition. Yes, I somehow became a stats geek having taken only one stats class in college. Who knew?

It seems that I should put out some sort of concrete measurement of what I want to achieve with this site (I think Merlin would approve). So I’m going to throw some out there and see how the next year shapes up.
1) Have a site with values firmly ensconced with the values of Christ.
2) Have an income producing site to the point that it’s self maintaining.
3) Have a site that’s as amusing to me as it is to everybody else.
Now, as long as I continue to ask myself “am I meeting these goals?”, from time to time, we’ll be just fine. I did for a moment consider changing this to a tumblog (a la Leo Laporte), but it seems a bit too drive by for what I want to accomplish.
I do want to give a big thanks to Brian over at Randomthink. Brian’s put up with me for quite a few years and most recently helped me set up the whole database side of Wordpress. I didn’t even know what I was getting into, but I gave him a call and he came to the rescue. Please go see what he and his wife Lisa are up to.
And here’s duck number 2. I will be working on thumbnails and size over the next week. Should be fun!
