Happy Anniversary!

Wow, I somehow made it through a year on the site!  Let’s see, I’ll be sure to get a birdseed cake.  Hee hee hee.

But really, none of this is possible without God, duck donors, Brian, and those of you who drop by to see what I have to say and sometimes click through the ads.  And speaking of ads, I’m thinking about replacing them with something more financially, and consequently spiritually, rewarding.  More on that later.

Look to the Skies!

It’s possible that I’m jumping the gun, as I am likely to do, but I’m going to start a podcast on space news.  While I’m sure there are a few podcasts out there regarding this topic, I just want to promote space exploration and colonization and keep it in the public eye.  Brian’s going to produce, and I’ll post the location when the first show goes up.

Jesus said to keep looking up and wait for His return.  This conversation happened AFTER his death!  Grab a Bible and check out Acts, if you don’t believe me. :^)

Update: recorded the first show on Saturday, ill prepared and full of “um’s”.  Brian and I will try again on Thursday with better circumstances.  And hopefully we’ll have it up by Saturday the 26th.  I’ll reveal the website on that day so ye loyal readers and happenstance passersby can take a listen.

(note: this was supposed to be posted Thursday.  Sorry for the wait.)

Making more museum

I’m expecting one more duck before I update the duck donation and ducks over time chart on the other pages to this site.  Once received, I will be working hard to update the look of the museum with some super animation.  I was able to update the page with Share This, an idea that I got from Brian’s page.  It allows readers to post a link to various social sites and such.  I’ve always wanted this ability, figuring people will want to share with their friends online.

To God be the glory, great things He has done!

Giving Thanks

It’s a pretty special Thanksgiving for me and so let the thanking begin!  I’m thankful for a God who cares, and is willing to sacrifice His only Son in order to bring me to the kingdom (John 3:16).  I’m thankful for the best family a man could ask for, that while we had a turbulent year, can still love and laugh together.  I’m thankful for this site and anyone who’s passed by, as it has been an excellent outlet for things I’ve had simmering for years.  I hope those who have read or just looked at the pictures of ducks have enjoyed themselves.  I am thankful for Brian, as our friendship grows in many regards.  I am thankful for David, who introduced me to the world of podcasting, and Carol, who continues to remind me that “there’s always next year”.  I’m thankful for a good job to get up for in the morning.

And lastly, a very special thanks to those who have donated to the museum.  These people give expecting nothing in return.  I hope to someday be able to return the kindness.

May God grant us all peace and rest for this holiday.

False Starts

I’ve tried to write a new post three times now, and just couldn’t get the traction.  But here’s the highs and the lows since Friday:
Furnace breakage costs just under 600 dollars. (most decidedly low)
Repair included a workman’s knee going through the sheetrock in the ceiling of our laundry room. (limbo low)
Furnace is fixed. (coming back)
Repairman for ceiling is working as I write this. (better)
Played Super Mario 64 all weekend with wife and kids. (nice!)
Joined a new church and immediately was swept up in the choir. (warm feelings inside)
Listened to some BOL, TWiT, and Amber (which is back from hiatus, yay Amber). (oh yeah, love that tech)

So all in all, I’m in an upswing.  I see Brian has played hours of Gutiar Hero III, so I expect a review from him soon, and maybe a chance to play with him if I can get over to his house soon.

What can I say? (Entertainment) Technology Rocks!

Wow, so let me go ahead and review a number of things in order of appearance as I visited Brian’s on Friday:

  • Brian - excellent friend, met me right at the door and just is a super host.
  • Gryphon - Brian’s dog, a good little puppy who also met me at the door. Prolly needs his own twitter feed.
  • Lisa - Brian’s excellent wife, way cool and solid nacho cheese provider.
  • The big LG wide screen and surround sound combo - Wow! The true home theater in a reasonable footprint.
  • Planet Earth HD DVD by the BBC - Brian went to show me what high definition looked like, and we ended up watching the whole episode. Simply Amazing.
  • Guitar Hero/GH II/GH Encore - Fun, but definitely more fun in multiplayer than in single mode. Nintendo Wii - It’s just plain fun. Thought of how fun it would be watching my kids play it.
  • Brian’s cadre - Brian has a great circle of friends who are always good natured. God bless ‘em. Otherwise, It’s a new duck that’s amuck over in the sidebar. I need to update my Donations and Ducks Over Time pages so watch for that to happen shortly.

Bonus Post: Law and Love

Wow! So I just got done listening to TWiL #8 and there is this incredible new rate a lawyer site. Please go to avvo.com and check it out, because I don’t know about you, but I sure don’t know diddly about picking good lawyers. And if it’s not up in your state yet, sign up for the email updates. The guy who runs it (formerly of Expedia) was just incredibly well spoken and had the right idea in coming up with this.

And Brian gave me props yesterday! I wouldn’t be doing this without him, so I totally dig his much love and respect.

Annd, I’m full of a root beer float. Not bad for a Tuesday night.

Safari Not So-Goody

I was just listening to This Week In Tech #101 and it turns out that two hours later over 100 security flaws were found in the Safari browser for Windows.  Woops!  As to whether the blame is on Apple or on Microsoft remains to be seen, however, I’m still behind browser competition, or any competition for that matter.  Anyone for tennis?

I have about 4 more ducks waiting to be received by friends Franz and Brian, and that leads me to 1 duck away from a duck a week for the first year of this blog.  Donations are wayyyyy up this month.  I’ve also talked to Brian about a widget for the wordpress contest that appeals to my geekitude.  I can think things up, but I can’t get much farther than the drawing board.  Brian has the black belt in coding.

And on the self improvement front, I got Dave Allen’s “Getting Things Done” and actually got up and ran this morning.  It’s time to streamline my life physically and mentally.  Spiritually, I got God, and God is good.
