They read my letter on Buzz Out Loud!

Here’s why I’ll never handle stardom, as I geeked out when the cast of CNet’s Buzz Out Loud podcast read my letter on the air!!!  Here’s the clip of my letter (should take you to an mp3 I cut out).

Annnd here’s a link to the whole episode.  It is my FAVORITE tech podcast and I love the banter.  Thanks BOL! You made my week!

Balloon Wi Fi Name

Balloon Wi-Fi + Google = Balloogle!  There, I said it.  Thanks to JaMoTo for the inspiration from episodes 665 and 666 from Buzz Out Loud.

Fading Star

Sometimes you just don’t catch something soon enough and it’s already gone.  I’ve been considering getting into Eve Online, and so I’ve been digging around in the ‘casts relating to the game.  I found Podded, which I caught at episode 4 (on the eve online website) and then did some more searching and found the final episode (11) which went up in April of 2007.  Michael did a good job of talking about development and in-game action.  Thanks for the show Michael, perhaps things will change where you get to cast again in the future.  I did also listen to another ‘cast on MMORPGs but I won’t mention the name as I found it sorely lacking versus any other ‘cast I’ve ever listened to.

Update: And now I am checking out Warp Drive Active (takes you to show #25), which seems to be a solid two-player ‘cast.  The in-game news tends toward battles and kills and it sounds like some equal time should be given to the exploration/corporate contracts side of the game, but real world news tends to run along the same lines doesn’t it?

DSL-ification

I LOVE DSL! Here’s the stats better than advertised! 1.09m down and 906k up!

I even wrote a poem about it:

DSL,
DSL,
Hey, what’s that smell?
The dishes? Well,
They’ve not been done.
I couldn’t tell.
Cause now I’m hooked,
on DSL.

And yes, I’ve completely cracked.

Lijitimized!

I dug a new widget out of Leo’s blog from Lijit.  The best way to describe Lijit is that it’s a personalized social search engine that collects data from everything done by me on the internet.  The thing I like about Lijit is stats, stats, and more stats!  I like seeing who looks me up, when they are looking, and what they were looking for, and Lijit is somehow able to pick all that up while allowing for a search, tag cloud, and even a “surprise me” button which I believe will take the clicker to a random spot somewhere in the museum.

Oh what fun it is to track in a one horse open sleigh!

On and Off Sale

I want to talk about online and offline computer games for a sec. Oh, wait, I guess they can all be online, given that Guitar Hero III and Rock Band are console games that connect to the internet, but I digress. I asked Brian to post about GH and I do hope to sponge off him again in regards to rock band. But I had lunch with Brian last week who was able to show me Eve online. It’s an incredible space opera massively multiplayer online game (MMOG) which is in fact not that new (although Mac access just came as of recently). But I was hooked as soon as I saw it in action. There is one drawback in which you have to stay “in ship” during the game. And while I would probably play anyway, I really hope an MMOG is set up for the Firefly/Serenity universe that would be the walkthrough of Second Life, with the in ship action of Eve online. Dare to dream.

Another New HD DVD format? Bring it ON!

I was so excited to hear on episode 558 of Buzz Out Loud about New Medium Enterprises HDVMD format!  Why?  Because: a) I am sick of this Blue-ray/HD debate that it rivals Apple iPhone rants and b) the possible entry market price for the player is rumored to be around 200 dollars, which would blow the cost of owning either of the two other formats away.  Seriously, we should all be applauding at our screens right now.

And Monday held a new quad-core Opteron release by AMD, a company of which I am admittedly a fanboy of.  Nobody’s really talking about it, though.  Sigh.

Annnd the trip is back on as my grandmother-in-law is a fighter (thanks for all the prayers)!  So I will be making things happen around the house while the rest of the family is away.  Here’s my list of things to do (in no particular order):
1)launch a facebook mirror site
2)consider updating the theme of this page
3)play around more with linux (specifically, dsl and ubuntu)
4)consider creating an iGoogle thing for feeds and such
5)overhaul my iTunes library
6)ride a bike
7)weed the back yard
8)update the ducks over time/donations pages
9)get through the book of Joshua

Of course, I’ll blog about how successful I am next week.  Full steam ahead!
