But it is my daughter’s and Google’s! I didn’t even realize that my daughter would grow up to be a Google baby, but I was really focused on her at the time (and consequently, still am along with daughter number two). But happy birthday to both!

Just a quick note today. Nick Erfle was buried in Phoenix today, and I hope to catch some news coverage tonight at home. I’ve trolled quite a few blogs on this and commented on one (birdsoftheair to be accurate), and I just can’t stress enough how incredible Nick was. Some bloggers were painting the whole affair with the broad stroke of a profiling gone bad issue, but I don’t think those who did this read the entire story. Interrupting traffic is dangerous to both driver and pedestrian. Laws are in place for police to enforce, and a citation is a citation, no matter the situation. Nick was a stand up police officer, and I cried through most of church just thinking about him.
Again thank you, God, for Nick. Please bless him and keep him. Please comfort his family. In the name of Your Son, Jesus, I pray. Amen.

On September 18th, 2007, my friend, Officer Nick Erfle, was shot and killed in the line of duty for the Phoenix Police Department. I’ve known Nick for roughly 12 years and I just don’t have the words to describe how great a man, a husband, and a father he was. I am just heartbroken for Julie and their two sons, who basically had someone steal Nick from them. This all happened after Nick had just come back from a harrowing experience with cancer and was getting his life back in order.
The person who did this did not survive the day, as he was caught and shot as he threatened the hostage he had taken during that time. The person who shot Nick was an illegal alien confirmed to be deported from the country in March 2006.
Thank you, God, for Nick. Please look over Julie and the boys; comfort and protect them in this time of sorrow. Please give us all consolation in this event that we just cannot comprehend. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
Please go through the following links, and I encourage anyone moved by this to sign the condolence book.

With grandma-in-law going back in to the hospital again on Thursday night the trip was canceled. So I got some bike riding in Saturday morning and got a new plugin for wordpress pages to be viewed on the iPhone (thanks to the MBW crew). Now I just need to update the version of wordpress. The good news is that I will be going with my fam to PA over Columbus Day weekend. Hooray!

I was so excited to hear on episode 558 of Buzz Out Loud about New Medium Enterprises HDVMD format! Why? Because: a) I am sick of this Blue-ray/HD debate that it rivals Apple iPhone rants and b) the possible entry market price for the player is rumored to be around 200 dollars, which would blow the cost of owning either of the two other formats away. Seriously, we should all be applauding at our screens right now.
And Monday held a new quad-core Opteron release by AMD, a company of which I am admittedly a fanboy of. Nobody’s really talking about it, though. Sigh.
Annnd the trip is back on as my grandmother-in-law is a fighter (thanks for all the prayers)! So I will be making things happen around the house while the rest of the family is away. Here’s my list of things to do (in no particular order):
1)launch a facebook mirror site
2)consider updating the theme of this page
3)play around more with linux (specifically, dsl and ubuntu)
4)consider creating an iGoogle thing for feeds and such
5)overhaul my iTunes library
6)ride a bike
7)weed the back yard
8)update the ducks over time/donations pages
9)get through the book of Joshua
Of course, I’ll blog about how successful I am next week. Full steam ahead!

Grandma in law is sick with what started with a 104 degree temp stemming from some sort of infection. Please pray for her recovery as she is 82 and we love her to pieces. All in all, my good intentions about site updates and critical computer backup is back on the shelf. It’s a situation where you can only really take care of these things when there are no interuptions. Thanks for being patient and to the one person who actually subscribes to the feed, I owe ya.

So this week I’ve spent some time with a few flavors of Linux, more out of curiosity than anything (plus a live cd allows you to get a feel of things without throwing the baby out with the bath water). Mainly, the action occurs on either an old p3 or an old p2 laptop. I tried two versions of Kubuntu (feisty and dapper) and they just couldn’t cut the mustard when it came to the display. I’d get two mouse icons and a cut coming in from the right side of the screen about 2-3 inches in. Then I remembered that I had an old (and I mean 0.8.7 vs. 3.4.1 OLD!) version of DSL on CD in the garage. I had used it on the p2, but never the p3, so I threw it in and it more or less was happy to run! Again, it’s fun trying these sorts of things out, but I certainly am no programmer. When a version of linux gets to where I can just boot up, surf the web, balance my check book and load photos from a camera without having to get into a command line, let me know. I’m sure I’ve been crippled by windows due to this mentality, but I’m no longer in the mood, nor have the time, to mess with the back end of things.
I’m sure that just blew my credibility when it comes to tech, but you came for all the pictures of the cute ducks anyway, right? :^D
